About

What is an interstate Compact?

An interstate compact is a constitutionally authorized, legislatively enacted, legally binding contract between multiple states.

Do other professions have compacts?

Yes! Thirteen professions have active interstate compacts for occupational licensure.

Will I HAVE to participate to practice in Idaho

No. Membership to the interstate compact license would be an election you make when obtaining/renewing your Idaho license

How do states use interstate compacts?

Compacts are versatile policy tools that can be leveraged for any issue where states have a need to coordinate. For example, existing compacts are used to reduce burdens for military families in transition, solve boundary disputes, manage shared natural resources and build resilience to natural disasters.

How is this different from existing licensure portability laws?

Unlike universal licensure recognition, compacts reduce barriers to practicing in multiple states and provide for two-way reciprocity rather than simply making it easier for just out-of-state practitioners to become licensed.
